1. Hydraulic System — Core Vulnerable Part of Dump Trucks
The hydraulic system serves as the core power unit for cargo lifting and unloading. Any fault in the oil cylinder, pipeline or fuel tank will directly cause unloading failure.
1.1 Lifting Oil Cylinder
Regularly inspect the cylinder outer wall for scratches, paint peeling and oil seepage, and check the piston rod for deformation and collision damage. For inverted oil cylinders, pay special attention to damaged dust covers — sediment and sand ingress will quickly wear out oil seals, resulting in oil leakage and insufficient lifting power. Clean sand and gravel on the cylinder surface before each operation.
Note: Stop lifting operation immediately if oil leakage occurs. Continuous forced operation will lead to permanent cylinder damage.
1.2 Hydraulic Pipes & Joints
Check pipe surfaces for wear, bulging and cracking, and verify all joints for looseness and oil seepage. Severe vibration on construction sites easily loosens pipe joints. Broken hydraulic pipes will cause rapid oil leakage and pose major driving hazards. Replace damaged pipes in a timely manner instead of using temporary tape repairs.
1.3 Hydraulic Fuel Tank
Inspect the fixing straps and brackets of the fuel tank for cracks and looseness. Check the hydraulic oil level regularly. Replace the hydraulic oil and filter element promptly if the oil turns dark, turbid or contains impurities. Insufficient hydraulic oil will cause slow lifting, abnormal noise and accelerated oil pump wear.

Long-term heavy-load impact causes severe wear on all hinged parts of the cargo box, which are commonly neglected in routine maintenance.
2.1 Tilting Supports & Hinge Pins
Insufficient lubrication of tilting seat pin bushes will cause cargo box offset and left-right shaking during lifting. Perform regular greasing and check the pin bush clearance. Replace worn bushes in time to avoid severe cargo box deviation.
2.2 Cargo Box Body, Floor & Side Panels
Check box welds for cracks and the floor for deformation. Trucks hauling ore and stone suffer faster floor wear, so regular wear detection is necessary. Repair tiny weld cracks promptly to prevent expanded damage and costly overhauls.
2.3 Lock Hooks & Rear Bucket Latches
Worn lock hooks and weakened spring elasticity may cause accidental rear door opening during bumpy driving, leading to material falling and serious traffic safety hazards. Confirm full locking of rear door hooks before and after each operation.

3.1 Axle Nameplate & Fasteners
Regularly check the axle housing for oil seepage and repair leaking hub oil seals timely. Fasten leaf springs and U-bolts periodically. Bumpy site conditions easily loosen U-bolts, which may cause spring fracture and rear axle displacement.
3.2 Leaf Springs & Shock Absorbers
Inspect leaf springs for fracture and dislocation, and replace failed or leaking shock absorbers in a timely manner. Broken springs will trigger major safety risks under heavy-load driving conditions.
4. Braking System — Top Priority for Heavy-Duty Trucks
Dump trucks frequently work under heavy-load and downhill conditions, bringing extreme load to the braking system.
- Regularly check brake pad wear and brake drum condition;
- Inspect air circuit pipelines and joints for air leakage;
- Drain water from the air storage cylinder routinely.
Construction-site dump trucks have far higher brake wear than ordinary freight vehicles. Never delay maintenance until the braking system fails or weakens.
5. Easily Overlooked Maintenance Details
- Grease Lubrication Points: Perform periodic greasing on tilting mechanisms, drive shafts and steering pins to avoid abnormal component wear caused by insufficient lubrication.
- Wiring Harness: Frequent cargo box lifting causes extrusion and wear on wiring harnesses. Regularly check for damaged wire insulation to prevent short circuits.
- Fastening Screws: Re-tighten loose fixing screws for cargo box brackets, fuel tank straps and oil cylinders regularly, as vibration on construction sites easily loosens fasteners.
Most major overhauls of dump trucks stem from insufficient daily inspection rather than poor component quality. Construction sites feature dusty environments and strong operating impact — minor unaddressed faults will escalate into severe failures. Spending a dozen minutes on key component inspection daily can effectively reduce shutdown risks and extend the overall service life of dump trucks.
